WHERE: 437 Highland Ave., (706) 736-9191
CUISINE: Southwestern, Sushi
DATE VISITED: June 11, 2008
WHAT WE HAD: Salmon roll, tempura asparagus with teriyaki and TakoSushi sauce, bagel roll with smoked salmon, cream cheese and scallions, pork pot stickers and white wine.
WHAT’S THERE: At TakoSushi, there are a number of exclusively Asian and exclusively Southwestern dishes, plus a fusion of the two – like salmon ranchero. The wine list has a good mix of red and white varieties. Plus, the wait staff is willing to make suggestions.
WHAT TO EXPECT: Wait time for seating is not exceptionally long, even on a busy evening. However, there is a sushi bar where you can see the chef preparing the food before your meal.
THE VERDICT: The meal was satisfying and greatly enhanced by the atmosphere. This is a great spot to visit for college students, young professionals and casual diners.
AMBIANCE: The atmosphere was energetic and congenial. Artwork on the walls reflected both culinary worlds – Southwest and Asian – very well. Mixed with the chatter of happy patrons, the upbeat music was a bit too loud to carry on a more than casual conversation. But the tempo created a great vibe to unwind from work during happy hour.
