Quick Bite
Shangri-La Asian Cuisine

By Jill Stephens

Where: 2933 Washington Rd., (706) 667-9362

Cuisine: Chinese, Japanese, Thai

Date Visited: June 23, 2008

What We Had: Crab and cream cheese rangoon, orange chicken with white rice, fried ice cream

What’s There: Shangri-La offers a wide variety of enticing appetizers, soups and entrees in a sophisticated setting. The wait staff is polite and attentive. On Sundays there is a brunch buffet from 11:30 am to 3 pm

What To Expect: Quick service and generous portions. On a weekday night you’ll be seated and served immediately. The appetizers and desserts are easy to share and too good to pass up, so be sure to save some room.

The Verdict: Delicious food for a fairly reasonable price. The crab rangoon had a great balance of flavors and textures. Though extremely spicy, the chicken has a bold, concentrated flavor. And the decadent fried ice cream—set on fire at your table—was the perfect ending to the meal. The chances of leaving hungry or unsatisfied is slim to none.

Ambiance: Typical Asian décor combines with red walls, dim lighting and fresh flowers for a slightly more upscale feel here. The soft rock soundtrack includes the best of Barry Manilow and Shania Twain. It’s a good destination for dates and family, as well as friends who have grown tired of fast-food value menus.
